Health inequity also happens across ethnicities. For instance, Ethnic Minorities would face language barriers when they are using the healthcare services, and Muslim ladies would face difficulties in accessing facilities for physical activities. All these problems would lead to poorer health performance compared to local Chinese. Research showed that 50% of the South Asian ladies in Hong Kong are obese, while only 14% of the local Chinese ladies are facing the same issue. Thus, we are concerned about the health situations of Ethnic Minorities.
Health In Action aims to promote primary health care to all members of the community. Through lifestyle modification, we hope to establish a healthier lifestyle for Ethnic Minorities to prevent their chance of having serious illnesses. Our service targets are low-income families, especially Nepalese, Pakistanis and Indians. We also provide medical consultations for refugees and asylum-seekers.
